Josh at Sapphire with x-ray inspection system

Life at Sapphire: Service Technician

To introduce working life at Sapphire Inspection Systems we present the first in our series of team introductions.
Josh White has been with Sapphire for 8 years and has worked across numerous areas of the business.

Where did it all start?

I was introduced to Sapphire as a fledgling business through a family connection 8 years ago. Whilst studying for an IT qualification at college, I began learning on the job gaining skills such as soldering, building PCs and wider machine manufacturing skills.

What does the average week entail as a Service Technician?

Having spent the past few years as a Field Service Technician, my role now is as a desk-based Technician, delivering remote support for our customers. As well as handling customer support for machine queries, I work closely with my line manager to ensure customer site visits are escalated to Field Technicians efficiently.
This is a newly created role within the company and allows me to assist with software testing, take on some project management tasks and develop SOP manuals for our team of Field Technicians.

How has the company changed in the time you have worked here?

Obviously as the company has grown, more opportunities have become available. Personally, the range of partners and suppliers we now work with and how our internal teams work together and with these outside companies is the biggest indication of how much we have grown.

What excites you most about the future of the company?

As the company has grown, I have been able to expand my skill set and progress further with an option now to undertake a management course alongside my current duties.

We’re embarking on some new, exciting commercial relationships that look set to change the company in a very positive way.

What advice would you give to someone starting their career at Sapphire?

Ask questions, all the time and of everyone. There is a huge pool of collective knowledge amongst the teams here. Alongside that, if you can see a better way of doing things, speak up – even if that feels challenging.
